Overview
Start ASL has launched a new learning platform designed to provide a more modern, streamlined, and engaging learning experience. This FAQ explains how the transition affects existing students, legacy courses, and course progress.
Why Did Start ASL Create a New Platform?
Our new platform was built to provide:
A cleaner learning experience
Better progress tracking
Improved quizzes and activities
Enhanced course organization
Additional learning options
Online Guided support with instructor feedback, Practice Sessions, and Office Hours
The new platform allows us to continue improving the learning experience for current and future students.
What Is the Legacy Platform?
The Legacy Platform refers to the previous version of Start ASL's online learning system.
Many long-time students may still have courses or subscriptions associated with the Legacy Platform.
While the Legacy Platform remains available for eligible students, new enrollments are generally directed to the new platform.
Can I Still Access My Legacy Courses?
In many cases, yes.
Students with active access to legacy courses may continue using those courses according to their original purchase terms.
Availability depends on the specific product purchased and current access status. When subscriptions end, students will be directed to sign up for our new platform. Make sure to log into the legacy platform from our login page here: https://login.startasl.com in order to continue accessing your active legacy course.
Do I Need To Switch To The New Platform?
No.
Students with active subscription access to legacy courses may continue using those courses if they prefer.
However, new purchases and enrollments are generally completed through the new platform.
Can I Switch To The New Platform?
Yes. Students who would like to move to the new platform may purchase or enroll in the corresponding course on the new platform. Before switching, it is important to understand how course progress is handled.
Will My Course Progress Transfer?
No. Assignments, quizzes, grades, and course progress completed on the Legacy Platform do not transfer to the new platform. Students beginning a course on the new platform should expect to start that course from the beginning.
What Is The Best Time To Switch?
For most students, we recommend completing their current course level before switching platforms.
For example:
Finish ASL 1 on the Legacy Platform, then begin ASL 2 on the new platform.
This allows students to retain the benefit of their completed work while taking advantage of the improvements available on the new platform.
What Are My Options?
Option 1 — Finish Your Current Level (Recommended)
Continue learning on the Legacy Platform until you complete your current course level.
Then transition to the new platform for your next course level.
This option helps ensure you don't lose any completed work.
Option 2 — Switch Now
If you would prefer to move to the new platform immediately, you may be able to transition before completing your current level.
In some situations, a prorated credit may be available toward a new platform subscription.
A member of our team can review your account and explain any available transition options.
Can I Try The New Platform First?
Yes.
You can explore the new learning experience by enrolling in our 7-Day ASL 1 Trial Course.
The trial allows you to experience the new platform before deciding whether to switch.
Are The Courses Different?
The learning goals remain similar, but the new platform includes updated organization, improved learning tools, and enhanced student support options.
Some lessons, activities, assignments, and learning experiences may differ from those found on the Legacy Platform.
What Are The Benefits Of The New Platform?
Benefits may include:
Improved course organization
Better progress tracking
Enhanced quizzes and activities
Streamlined learning experience
Online Guided support options
Practice Sessions
Office Hours
Ongoing platform improvements
Can I Have Access To Both Platforms?
Access depends on the products purchased and the terms associated with those products.
Students may have access to one or both platforms depending on their situation.
A member of our team may review account-specific questions when additional information is needed.
What If I Can't Find My Course?
Many course access issues occur when students accidentally log into the wrong platform or use a different email address than the one associated with their purchase.
If you're having trouble locating a course, a member of our team may need to review your account information and access details.
What If I Have Questions About My Specific Account?
Some questions require access to account-specific information that is not available through our knowledge base.
Examples include:
Enrollment status
Subscription status
Course access
Purchase history
Certificates
Progress records
A member of our team may review your account and provide additional assistance when needed.
My Legacy Subscription Expired. How Do I Continue Learning?
Starting in April 2026, Start ASL moved to a new learning platform with improved features, enhanced progress tracking, updated learning activities, and Online Guided support options.
If you enrolled in the Online Course before April 2026 and your legacy subscription has expired, you will need to enroll in one of the current Start ASL course options to continue learning.
Current options include:
Online Self-Study
Online Guided
Offline Course Downloads
You can review the available options and choose the best fit for your learning goals on our course options page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I Renew My Legacy Subscription?
Legacy subscriptions are no longer available for new enrollments or renewals. Students wishing to continue their studies should enroll in one of the current course options on the new platform.
Will My Legacy Progress Transfer?
No.
Because the new platform was rebuilt using a different course structure and tracking system, progress from the Legacy Platform does not transfer.
For this reason, we recommend completing your current course level before switching whenever possible.
Which Option Should I Choose?
Choose Online Self-Study if you prefer independent learning.
Choose Online Guided if you would like instructor feedback, grading, Practice Sessions, and Office Hours.
Choose Offline Course Downloads if you need downloadable course materials for offline use.
Summary
The new Start ASL platform provides a modern learning experience with improved features and additional support options.
Students may continue using eligible legacy courses according to their original access terms, but progress and completed work do not transfer between platforms.
For most students, the best approach is to complete their current course level before transitioning to the new platform.
