Some Start ASL downloads are provided as ZIP folders. A ZIP folder is a compressed folder that keeps several files together in one download.
Before you can properly use the files inside the folder, you need to unzip or extract the ZIP folder.
Why Do I Need to Unzip the Folder?
If the folder is still zipped, some files may not open correctly. For example, videos, PDFs, links, or course pages may not work properly until the full folder has been extracted.
If the folder icon still shows a zipper, it has probably not been unzipped yet.
How to Unzip a Folder on a Windows PC
Find the ZIP folder you downloaded.
Right-click the ZIP folder.
Select Extract All.
Choose where you want the extracted folder to be saved.
Click Extract.
Open the new extracted folder and use the files from that folder going forward.
Do not use the original zipped folder after extracting the files.
How to Unzip a Folder on a Mac
Find the ZIP folder you downloaded.
Double-click the ZIP folder.
Your Mac will automatically create a new unzipped folder in the same location.

Important: Keep the Files Together
After unzipping the folder, keep the files and folders in the same structure they were in when downloaded.
Do not move, rename, separate, or reorganize files inside the main course folder. Moving files around may cause links, videos, PDF files, or HTML course pages to stop working correctly.
You may move the entire unzipped folder to another location on your computer or save it to an external hard drive, but the files inside the folder should stay together.
What If I Am Using a Mobile Device?
If possible, we recommend downloading and unzipping the files on a computer first. After the files are unzipped, you may be able to transfer them to your mobile device.
Some mobile devices can unzip ZIP folders using built-in tools or apps. You will also need apps that can open the file types included in your download, such as PDF, HTML, and MP4 video files.
