Thank you for purchasing a Start ASL Teacher’s Curriculum / Classroom License! This article will help you access your curriculum materials, download your student guide materials, and begin using the course in your classroom.
Note: A detailed instructional PDF is attached to this article for your reference.
Step 1: Log In to the Start ASL Platform
Go to: https://login.startasl.com
Log in using the account information used for your Teacher’s Curriculum / Classroom License purchase.
Step 2: Open Your Teacher’s Curriculum Materials
Once you are logged in, go to your course dashboard and open the Teacher’s Curriculum course.
This is where you can access and download your classroom curriculum materials, including your course files and teacher resources.
Step 3: Open the Student Guide Course
Next, visit the Don’t Just “Sign”… Communicate! Student Guide course in your dashboard.
This is where you can access and download the student guide materials included with your classroom license.
Step 4: Download Your Materials
Download the files provided inside the Teacher’s Curriculum and Student Guide courses.
Your Teacher’s Curriculum ZIP download files include materials such as:
Student Access Details
ASL_Workbook.pdf
ASL_Syllabus.pdf
ASL_Lessons.pdf
ASL_Readings.pdf, for ASL 3 and ASL 4 when included
HTML course files
HTML support files
Video files
The Student Access Details include information for students to access online videos for workbook assignments at home, if you choose to assign homework.
Step 5: Unzip the Downloaded Files
After downloading your curriculum files, you will need to unzip the ZIP folder before using the materials.
If the folder still shows a zipper icon, it is still zipped and needs to be extracted.
On a Mac
Double-click the ZIP folder. An unzipped folder with the same name will be created in the same location.
On a PC
Right-click the ZIP folder and select Extract All, or select the folder and click Extract All.
After unzipping, use the unzipped folder from that point forward.
Step 6: Choose How You Want to Teach the Course
Your Teacher’s Curriculum includes two course formats. You may use either one or a combination of both.
Option 1: HTML Webpage Course
The HTML version opens in your web browser and gives you a website-like course experience without requiring an internet connection after the files have been downloaded.
To use this version:
Open the unzipped course folder.
Locate the index.html file.
Open it in your browser.
Use the menu to navigate through the course lessons, vocabulary, activities, and videos.
Google Chrome or Firefox is recommended.
This option can also be projected onto a screen while teaching in the classroom.
Option 2: PDF Course
The PDF version uses the ASL_Lessons.pdf file to guide you through the course.
To use this version:
Open the unzipped course folder.
Open ASL_Lessons.pdf.
Follow the lessons in order.
Watch the videos when prompted by opening the linked videos or locating them in the videos folder.
Have students complete activities in the ASL_Workbook.pdf when prompted.
Step 7: Prepare Student Materials
Before starting the course, locate the ASL_Workbook.pdf file.
This workbook is used for course activities, quizzes, and exams. You may print or provide the workbook to students according to your classroom needs and license terms.
Important: If you do not want students to have access to the answer key, be sure to remove the answers from the back of the workbook before distributing it.
Important File Setup Notes
Please keep all files and folders in the same structure they were in when downloaded.
Do not move, rename, separate, or reorganize files inside the main course folder. Moving files around may cause the PDF links, HTML course pages, or videos to stop working correctly.
You may move the full course folder to another location on your computer or save it to a removable drive, but the files inside the folder should stay together.
Copyright and License Notes
Teacher’s Curriculum materials may not be posted publicly online.
Student Guide e-books may not be posted online or distributed outside of your purchased licenses.
Students may use the online video access details included with your purchased downloads to complete workbook assignments at home, if you choose to assign homework.
